Big day for Mum in Semaphore

May 5th, 2009

Discover gift ideas and big discounts

Special gift ideas and big discounts make shopping on Semaphore Road a must for Mother’s Day next Sunday May 10.

Much of the road works are finished and parking has never been easier on Semaphore Road, in the large Esplanade car parks and in close at hand surrounding streets.

And for all mums on their special day, free flowers and bubbly at a number of the many cafés, restaurants, hotels and wine bar that make up Adelaide’s new Eat Street.

With its foreshore, beach, sea views and what will eventually be a tree lined boulevard, Semaphore has the best ambience for enjoying a meal out on any weekend or during the week, and the selection continues to grow.

New kids on the block

This week we welcome two new kids on the block, Café Indulge, with free bubbly for mums on Sunday, down the Esplanade end, and the Lovely Jubbly Café, with free chrysanthemums, up past the Exeter Hotel.

At Café Indulge owners John and Lauren Privolpoulos have a mouth-watering menu for breakfast and dinner with Chef’s specials available from their brand new kitchen.

Breakfast of toasted bagels with ham and poached egg topped off with hollandaise, spinach and salmon, chorizo omelette or pancakes with real maple syrup.

Dinner includes appetisers goats cheese crostini, Greek salad and antipasto and mains of rib eye steak, rack of lamb and surf and turf.

All of this in a café open six days from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm and 7.30 am till late from Thursday to Saturday, with two log fires to keep out the winter chill.

And a gourmet hamburger to make your hair curl and eyes water.

At Lovely Jubbly Café Martyn and Wendy have a brand new all-weather courtyard setting and specialise in breakfast and lunch.

Traditional hearty breakfasts and muffins with egg and bacon, pancakes and croissants are on the extensive menu.

At lunchtime, already favourites with customers are home made soups and Martyn’s special hot roast beef rolls.

You can also make your own selection of baguettes and rolls with any filling you like and the wedges with chilli sauce are great for winter.

Martyn’s roast beef would raise eyebrows at Buckingham Palace.

Council’s swift response to SMA

February 4th, 2009

Yesterday morning (Tuesday) Robert Tiggerman, who is heading the Semaphore Road upgrade team, received an SMA email asking him to consider new surfacing for a median strip and trees in pots to enhance a section of the road which is not due for further work till later this year.

Just after 4 p.m. the SMA received this response from Robert: “We will install some mulch and small trees (in pots) in that area.”

As our photo shows, early the following morning (Wednesday) two City of Port Adelaide Enfield workers had arrived with the mulch and the job was already half done.

It is one more example of the fine work and consideration for traders and residents by Council while doing such a major road upgrade that will turn Semaphore Road into one of the finest boulevards in Australia.

Latest update on Semaphore Road works

September 10th, 2008

Work in progress on the site for the new Exceloo toilet on the corner of Jagoe Street and Semaphore road.

This is the latest update on road works on Semaphore Road from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield sent to us by Semaphore Ward Councillor Helen Wright.

Lighting

Approximately 75% of the footpath lighting has been installed and energised.

The remaining footpath lights are currently being installed; apparently there was a minor delay in the light supply to ETSA.

The overhead power line and stobie pole removals have commenced and will be substantially completed by late September.

A section of poles and wires will need to remain in place to maintain lighting to the Causeway Rd intersection until DTEI have installed their new intersection lights.

Latest update on road upgrade

May 12th, 2008

lightpole
SMA has received the following update from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

The Council drainage works are generally completed between Montpelier and Military Roads.

Additional drainage works are still required at the Causeway Road intersection, the Military Road intersection and a further extension of the drainage will be carried out in Swan Terrace in 2008/09.

At present ETSA are still working on undergrounding the power lines, connecting the new power system to each property and installing footpath lighting.

They advise that the undergrounding of power along the street is about 75 per cent complete and by the end of May they expect to have about 50 per cent of affected properties supplied from the underground power lines to the meter boxes. The remaining properties are to be progressively changed over during June.

Removal of the redundant overhead wires and stobie poles is expected to begin in late June with a completion target completion of July.

Associated with the ETSA work, Telstra and Optus are undergrounding their communication cables which were attached to the old ETSA poles and according to their report all should be completed by the end of July.
